All-God Prayer

to God of first light who rents space to God of fear and God of hope

to full-moon-making star-moistening God

to false God of the smoke-alarm light

to God of the Resurrection even in November

to God of morning when it do come

to God of the children’s souls whom I haven’t shown God so they made their own

to slow understand God fast God of right and wrong

to God of fist and fight God fold and follow

to God eat God settle me down God decide for me

to singing God who wouldn’t sing it talking God who wouldn’t shut it

to God of wife beside me sleeping a sad pit without God of Wife to guide her

to God of lemonade for my mouth was dry

to God who strokes its eight-legged way about me

to God of winter lately grown almighty

to God of house which lacks a warm room and good chair

to God of restlessness that he might be gone from me

to Gods of attention everywhere

to God of ancestors but they are blithe and don’t know me

to God of the edge who is with my friend

I pray and pray so rapt in prayer that I might sleep
